Homemade Ranch Dressing

Homemade Ranch Dressing

Our family doesn’t eat a lot of prepackaged food.. we do eat them, but when you are on a special diet (we are gluten and dairy free) much of the time you find it’s just easier to make your own. Plus, then you get spoiled.. because it tastes SO much better.

This is definitely the case with salad dressing.  We make a lot of homemade balsamic dressing.. which is super easy.  But my husband prefers a creamy dressing like Ranch.  So one day I just decided to make some.  I didn’t have all the ingredients (like some of the spices) so I just winged it.. and it turned out great.  You really don’t need them.. it just needs to be tangy, garlicy and creamy and then it tastes good!!

And as a note.. I generally only make a small amount, enough for 1 dinner.. the recipe below is enough 2 make 4 large servings or 8 smaller ones- even more if you like less homemade ranch dressing like we do.

Homemade Ranch Dressing

(the easy way.. but not traditional!!)

1/2 cup mayonnaise (we love Trader Joe’s with no sugar or preservatives.. homemade would be even better)
1 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar (MUST be Apple Cider Vinegar to taste right)
2-3 Tbs water , depends on how thin you want it  (or milk if you are not dairy free)
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp dried dill
Salt and Pepper to taste ( fresh ground is best, but any will do)

Put all the ingredients into a jar and cover with a lid and shake until combined.  Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator. I am guessing you could store in the refrigerator for at least a couple days, probably a week in the sealed jar..

*If you feel you need some herbs.. add in a little fresh parsley and dill.. but I don’t miss them at all!!

Let me know if you try this homemade ranch dressing..
