Save $54.79 Every Two Months By Skipping the Dry Cleaners!

March 18, 2013 by jlpenner Leave a Comment

Dry cleaning is expensive. Believe it or not, it is not the chemicals. It’s the hangers. When you get your clothing dry cleaned, you are not only paying for the service, but even the hangers and paper tags that go on your clothing.  Not surprisingly, dry-cleaners are passing on that cost to their customers.

$5.00 for a shirt, $10.00 for a dress and so on can really add up. If you are not careful, you can easily spend hundreds of dollars over the course of a few months on dry cleaning. Why not save that money instead by forgoing the dry cleaners and caring for your clothing at home instead? It is much easier than you might think!

Here are some tips to follow when caring for your clothes at home. You can easily save $54.79 over the course of two months if you just avoid dry cleaning five shirts at $5.00 each three pairs of pants or dresses at $10.00 each!

1. Decide if your clothes even need dry cleaning

Did you know that manufacturers are required by law to list “care instructions” on their clothing? That’s why you sometimes see the words, ”For best results, dry clean” on some garments. Don’t dry clean clothing that can be machine washed. Instead, use a delicate soap product and wash on the delicate cycle. Hang dry, and iron on a low heat. Yes this is a little of work for you, but it is better than shelling out as much as $10.00 a piece for a dry cleaning company to do it.

2. Keep your clothes neat and clean
The best way to avoid the dry cleaner is to keep your clothes from getting dirty for as long as possible. You can do this by applying all makeup and fragrance on your skin before you dress. Clean stains immediately with stain-remover pens or at least warm water. Keep clothes folded or hanging up. Don’t throw them in a pile, and don’t keep them in plastic bags.

3. If you must dry clean, save money by using these following tips

If you’re a loyal customer, it’s acceptable to ask for a deal. Of course you want to comparison shop as well. You might also ask if there is a discount if you bring your own hangers. Some will knock off a small percentage of your bill, so it is worth asking! These tips can save you as much as 20%, so give them a try and watch the savings add up.

So as you can see, these simple tips can easily save you money in the long run, and at the same time, your clothing will still look great! It may cost you a little time, but in the end your savings can be huge. So give these tips a try. You will not only save money, but just think you won’t find yourself waiting in line at a dry cleaners, or spending the gas to drive there!
