So I Think I am a Hoarder.. What Do You Think?

October 29, 2013 by jlpenner 18 Comments

Last week we cleaned out our office.. it was pretty scary.  I don’t know what  yours is like.. but ours is scary.

We took almost everything out of the office and put it in the living room. We  had 3 boxes to sort stuff in: throw away, keep and recycle.  Most of it actually went in the garbage.  I am amazed at how much I do get rid of on a daily basis but yet how much is left and makes all these huge piles on my desk.. it really is out of control.

But we got thorough it, about 80% that is.. still have the closet and my shelves above my desk, but that will have to be another time.

Want to know what I ended up with though?..

This..

Oh. My. Goodness.

I think I am a hoarder.. this is all samples.  They were in all sorts of different places in my office. It’s all stuff, at least mostly, that I could use without problem.  The issue is that I think they just get lost in the shuffle of life.

Can you help me with my problem.. do I need to go on that Hoarders show?

Have you every accidentally hoarded something?

If this is considered hoarding, then there is no hope for me. My suggestion is to give the samples to a homeless shelter. That is if there is one local to you. Some church's accept donations like this as well. They will give them out to the needy. Glad you got your space neaten up. No, I do not think you would be considered a hoarder.

I think everyone is some type of a hoarder in one way or another. Are you going to use those dog treats? My dog loves them. LOL!!!!!!!!

Some of those things are great for care packages for deployed service members.

I have my samples in a 6 drawer plastic container on wheels....each separated makeup, mouth supplies, medicines, etc. That way I use up my samples quicker. I also use mine to make a baggy medicine cabinet to put in camper, vehicles, etc. You never know when you may need something.

When samples arrive at my house I immediately put them in the location of like items. For example: diaper samples go into the diaper bin, feminine hygiene goes into the bathroom cupboard into the box or bag that is open, etc... I also have a box for our camping trips that shampoo and detergent samples go into. I have another box that goes to the homeless shelter that is constantly on standby. Anything I think I probably won't use goes into that box. When the box is full I deliver it to the homeless shelter. Having said that, there are two boxes that are waiting to go and have sat here for a week. :-) I'm tired of looking at them, and will take them soon. I'm just glad all the items aren't sitting in closets and drawers and I know they are things that others can use.

My office is a "HOT MESS". Lol. I need to clean it out. I hoard papers for sure! I am always afraid i might need it later even when, for example, its a paid bill or receipt from shopping! My husband gets so ill with me. lol. He tosses it when i'm not looking to keep it from getting as bad as the hoarder shows. I also have my "stockpile" scattered everywhere right now because i have been shopping a lot more to prepare for not having a job soon. Its crazy! I dont think you are a hoarder because of your stuff but just a victim of a busy life! (and thats my story and i'm sticking to it.

I just had the same experience this weekend. Drowning in free samples! I need to read "it's all too much" again to get myself in check.

You're cute! No, I don't think you're a hoarder!! Life gets busy...but you might try sticking the samples where you would actually use them or give them away! ;)

I gave up on samples because of this very reason. I got them, and they just sat around in a drawer!!

You are absolutely not a hoarder. Take it from me. I am a hoarder and it has made my life (and life for my family) a living hell. Good for you for cleaning it out. Wish I could do the same.

I accidentally hoard toilet paper and butter. We always have SOOOOOOO much of both, more than any reasonable person can use. The toilet paper is because I find good deals and use coupons and buy it. We have a family of 7, so I'm saving money, but at some point I do need to stop buying it and use up what we have. The butter, I don't know, I just can't stop!!! I love me some butter. I love to bake and what if I need it and don't have any? I always pick up 2 or 3 boxes, but forget that we didn't go through any of the previous boxes we already had. We have soooo much butter!

See if you could donate the samples to the USO or other organizations that could out them in care packages for the troops. There are sadly a lot of service members that would not otherwise receive anything from home if it wasn't for citizens that donated to places like the USO.

Just an opinion from someone who has seen a house stuffed full. I think you have some wiggle room here! lol! I think having half a box of samples is no where near hoarding.

I don't think your a hoarder, but if you get more then one sample of the same product, you should keep a seperate box, for a charity, like Soldier's Angel, there are female troops that would like beauty samples, men would like tea, cofee, razors. or you could make a box for domestic violence, pregnant teen home, local churches, dog rescues. I am thanking you in advance for any people you help. have a good night. Laura V
