“Regrow” Food You Would Throw Away

April 1, 2016 by jlpenner Leave a Comment

I have several articles on Frugal Living Mom for reducing food waste including ideas on making food last longer and how to use overripe produce.

Any food you don’t throw into the trash is money in your pocket.

So new ideas on this topic are always welcome in my book.

A couple of years ago the girls and I regrew a celery stalk and it was super cool to watch (check it out here).  You can also regrow onions and .  It’s a fun experiment and saves you money.

But I was surprised when I saw this video from The Wannabe Homesteader on “regrowing” tomatoes.  It’s not really regrowing in the sense of the celery or onions, but it’s a fabulous way to reuse a tomato you allowed to sit too long and otherwise will end up in the trash.

For this experiment you are going to need:

  • A nursery pot
  • Seed potting mix
  • Water
  • a cut tomato

Let me know if you try it!
