August 16, 2015 by jlpenner 3 Comments

coconut-oil2Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about coconut oil a lot in the last year. This amazing oil can be used for all sorts of maladies and problems, and it’s a healthy source of fat.Our family loves it and probably uses it daily in some way

If you want to use coconut oil but have no idea what to do with it, check out these eight uses for coconut oil!

1. Moisturizer and conditioner
Coconut oil is fantastic for your skin and hair. After a long shower, warm some coconut oil in your hands and massage it into your skin. If you have dry hair or split ends, work a small amount of coconut oil through your hair before rinsing with cool water.

2. Use in place of butter
If you enjoy butter on your toast, try a little bit of coconut oil instead. It offers a unique flavor to your breakfast and has plenty of health benefits.  It’s also perfect for homemade popcorn.  Pop it on the stove in the coconut oil or drizzle on after popped.

3. Lip balm

Whether you have chapped lips or you just want softer lips, rub a little bit of coconut oil on your lips whenever you need some moisture.

4. Aromatherapy

Coconut oil can be an excellent stress reliever. If you need to unwind, rub a tiny bit of coconut oil on your wrists or on your temples.

5. Oil pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient method of teeth cleaning that involves swishing coconut oil around in your mouth for up to 20 minutes. The result: cleaner, brighter, whiter teeth.

6. Energy boost

Coconut oil is a healthy fat, making it a fantastic source of energy. If you need a mid-afternoon boost, eat a tablespoon of coconut oil and power up. You can blend it right into you smoothies.

7. Cradle cap

If you have a baby or child with cradle cap, coconut oil can clear it up for good. Massage a tiny bit of coconut oil into their scalp and rinse to get some of the buildup off.

8. Give to your pets

Your pets need lots of fat and nutrients to stay happy and healthy. Giving them a bit of coconut oil every day can lead to shinier fur, healthier skin, and better digestion.

Have you tried coconut oil yet?  If so, how do you use it?

Is there a special type to purchase or can you use whatever brand you can find at your local grocery store?
