DIY Coffee Body Scrub

October 10, 2019 by jlpenner 6 Comments

Ever wonder what you could do with your morning coffee grounds other than thrown them in your garden? Why not make a shower scrub? From what I have read it could possibly reduce cellulite and varicose veins (due to the caffeine).. and while I don’t know about all that it will exfoliate your skin with out any harsh chemicals!!

DIY Coffee Body Scrub

What you will need:
2 cups of used coffee grounds from your morning pot
1 tablespoon olive or massage oil
1 cup sea salt (I get this at the $.99 store)
(optional) 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract or a dash of cinnamon
(optional) 15 drops off your favorite essential oil (mint or orange might be nice)

Bringing it together:
Combine the ingredients in a bowl and stir with a fork. Put the scrub to a wide mouthed jar, and store in a cool place until you are ready to use it. Should last for up to two weeks, probably longer if you store in the fridge (but that might be pretty cold on the body!!- you could half the recipe if you don’t think you will not use it up)

To Use:

Apply the scrub in the shower directly on your skin and rub in circular motions with your fingers or a washcloth. Make sure you don’t your this scrub on your face. After rinsing off the scrub wash with soap as usual.

*note* This scrub has a little bit of oil in it, so use care in the shower as the oil could make the shower slippery.

Let us know if you try it and how it works for you!!

I couldn't wait to make this! I am all about reusing things - ie. coffee grounds. I made it immediately. I didn't use the 2 cups of grounds like reccommended. I used whatever was in my coffee pot's filter from this morning. I used it on my hands to test it out and wow they are so soft. I haven't been able to find anything that would help make my hands feel better. They are so dry and cracked. I think this recipe just might work. I can't wait to try it in the shower on my whole body. What a great use of something I would normall throw away.

I love body scrubs, they make your skin feel so soft. But, I was wondering, wouldn't the coffee grounds clog up your pipes? Eventually?

lol- I would guess that depends on how much you use and how often!! I don't know the answer to that question :) jen

The grounds won't clog your pipes. Hair, toilet paper, etc, goes down the same drain system. Hair catches on the drain filter, but I would think that the grounds would go straight down.
